Ensemble and Performance Training

The Hong Kong International Music Academy (HKIMA) Junior Symphony Orchestra (JSO) was founded in 2017. The Orchestra mainly consists of young musicians, and is conducted by Mr. Tsai Loo, who is currently the Assistant Principal Second Violin of Hong Kong Sinfonietta. 


The JSO regularly has orchestral rehearsals on Sundays at HKIMA and is frequently invited to perform in a variety of events such as the HKIMA Christmas Concert at the Sha Tin Town Hall in December 2017, the Festival Music Night with pianist Niu Niu on 7 January 2018, HKFO School of Music X APSKT 節樂.樂聚.宣小 on 15 April 2018 at the Sha Tin Town Hall, HKIMA Open Days on 1 July and 8 July 2018, etc. They also performed in the Recital - Masterclass Series with Mr. Jovianney Emmauel Cruz on 17 February 2019. JSO has been on TVB ‘Cultural Engine 4U’ Programme  TVB《文化新領域》on 22 June 2019 and performed for charity causes at the Children's Charity Fashion Show on 14 July 2019 as well as at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on 17 July 2019 for elderly persons with dementia.  


They are talented young musicians with repertoire spanning from Mozart to Tchaikovsky to modern Chinese pieces, performing for a variety of causes. The youths have great chemistry and have said that rehearsals and performances are full of fun and enjoyment. 

Lessons on every Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00PM

Tuition Fees: $280 / session

Conductors: Mr. Tsai Loo and his team

Candidates are expected to play at least to the level of ABRSM Grade 5 or equivalent.

Completion of a graded exam however is not required.
